Ironman UK for Mannix Kane

"When I heard that poor Mannix was sick I was taken a back.  How young he is, how little he has experienced in life, the fact he has not even begun to grow up.  I know Bryan and I worked with his Dad and brother John in Sutton when I was growing up. To know the people involved made this appeal very important to me.

Phil cycling (Photo thanks to Wandy Clancy - www.PicSure.ie)I decided I needed to do something.  I wanted to raise sponsorship and try to help.  To that end I decided to enter an Ironman Triathlon. The Ironman is one of the toughest endurance events on the planet. Swim 2.4 Miles, Cycle 112 Miles, Run 26.2 Miles.  It is not easy, but is a piece of cake compared to what Mannix is currently fighting through. In life you need balance and perspective.  This is the biggest dosage of perspective that life can offer.

Cycling to the Rugby World Cup

Tom and Jodie

Jodie Burton and Tom Hudson are an amazing couple who have decided to cycle unassisted over 25,000 km from Twickenham Stadium, to the 2011 Rugby World Cup in Auckland, NZ, while trying to raise £1 for every kilometre they travel, all in the name of charity.

Jodie and Tom had been planning a 'warm-up' cycle in France but where they heard about a brave little guy called Mannix, they managed to dig even deeper into their amasingly large hearts to add even more distance to their epic cycle.

Tom and Jodie will be departing from Lansdowne Road on Thursday 22nd April 2010, for a six day cycle that will finish in Rosslare.  The furthest distance in their six day Irish warmup will be 150km leg, covered in just a single day.

During their trip, Jodie and Tom will be collecting for more than one charity but for this very special Irish leg, they are asking that all donations are given directly to the Mannix Kane Appeal, either into the appeal bank account, through PayPal here on the website or by contacting a member of the appeal committee.

You can follow their inspiring journey via their website http://www.cyclingtotherugbyworldcup.com and get more info about the Irish leg of their journey on their blog http://jodieandtom.wordpress.com/2010/04/05/uk-warm-up-promo-leg/.

Noleen, Bryan, Mannix, Noah and everyone helping with the Mannix Kane Appeal want to pass on our love, support and thanks to Jodie and Tom for their generosity.  We wish them a safe, successful and hugely enjoyable journey      ...and if Ireland are knocked out, we might even join them in cheering for our neighbours :)
